New Year's 2017 on Shoshone

What better way to start the New Year than by kayaking on the Colorado River on New Year’s Day! The tradition continues, and Peter Holcombe has become the unofficial event organizer, and this year rallied nearly 100 people to brave the icy waters and start the New Year off right.

Colorado Whitewater joined in and promoted an Après New Year's Day Paddle Get Together at the Iron Mountain Hot Springs in Glenwood Springs, which was a great way to warm up after paddling in thirty-degree weather. Brooke Smith of Colorado Whitewater whipped up hot cocoa to warm boaters at the take out while others brought chili. Some folks were inspired to get in a second and even a third lap on this 1.5-mile stretch of the Colorado River. Read more and view pictures. Maybe you’ll be inspired to join in this time-honored tradition next year.
